my mondeo alarm is faulty?

I have a ford Mondeo X reg. Every now and then the car alarm will constantly go off. It will get quieter and quicker. It's the horn that sounds. It will go for hours at times. Eventually I end up disconnecting the battery to get some sleep and stop my neighbours going mad! I've tried leaving the car unlocked and unalarmed but it still goes off! It has even before now been sounding whilst I have been driving!! It's very frustarting and for obvious insurance reasons I can't disconnect the alarm system. Does anyone have any idea why this happens? It will go for months without doing it then start and do it for days on end!!

I had a similar problem with a Mk 1 Mondeo, where the alarm would set itself going everytime I started the car; It turned out to be the bonnet switch. Each time the car was started the bonnet would flex on it's mountings and set the alarm off. This switch is different to all the other alarm micro-switches, in so far as it does other functions to do with the alarm system. All I did to fix it was to find the wiring going up to the switch, cut off the offending switch and join the two wires by baring some of each conductor wire and twisting them together finishing off with some insulating tape. The switch is located st the left-hand side looking at the engine (off-side or drivers side) and has a rubber boot protection. Bascially, the contacts in the switch wear out through vibration, the bonnet constantly flexes when driving.

HI DENISE I AGREE WITH ROGER BUT IT IS EXPENSIVE TO HAVE ANYTHING DONE WITH THE ALARMS SOO AS A QUICK FIX I FOUND THE OFFENDING KLAXTON AND I SNIPPED THE BLIGHTER..IF THE CAR IS TAKEN WELL THERES TWO PROBS SOLVED.

I had the same problem and it was a faulty bonnet unit where the bonnet locks in at the the front. As the car's computer logs all the alarms then take it to a garage and they will tell you which one is causing the alarm to go off
