MY HP PAVALION WILL NOT BOOT WINDOWS?

My Hp froze up so i powered down and then powered it back up and when I did that it will no longer boot windows. I get the screen telling the computer was not shut down properly and gives me choices on how to restart ie in safe mode , last known configuration that worked. And nothing worked. I hit f1 to enter setup and looked at the drives and it shows only my external maxtor as my primary drive what makes no sense to me is that It's unplugged but still show s as primary drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Wait several minutes and the log on should pop up after a long while. This just happened to me right after I lost power. The boot is extremely slow but at least it works. How can I fix this is were I'm stuck.

Try taking the hard disc out and putting it in another PC running Win2K or XP (but so that it isn't booting off that drive - try unplugging the CD drive and putting the HD in it's place). When Windows starts up, it should detect an error on the HP's hard disc and repair it quite easily...

Put the HPs drive back where it belongs (after shutting the PC down!) and it should be OK. This has happened to me a few times following power cuts...
