My insignia dvd recorder indicates that there is no disc, even though there is a disc.

Sorry I didn't read the question properly. I presume you mean blank disks ? try googleing the name and model of the player/writer along with something like "disc compatibility", not all disks work in all machines .

Hi Paul if you are talking about home burned disks, I suggest you look into changing the "book type" to DVD ROM when burning. Not all writers can do this so goggle your drives name and modle number with the words book type and see what comes up. there are small free programmes that may help some from the manufactures themselves.
