I have an Alpine Sat Nav Model NVE-N077PS?

On the 29.02.08 my sat nat would not load properly I just got a screen saying it was loading but it would not. I contacted my local radio guys who were very helpful and said it was due to a satilite going down due to th extra day in the leap year! they reset it and it worked ok for a day or two. Then it went back to this loading screen I then reset it (told by by them how to do) and I have had to do this every day sometimes twice a day! any ideas?

I have just bought an Alpine Sat Nav system from a mate and i fitted it yesterday. It includes the same model (NVE-N077PS) as you are talking about on here and has exactly the same fault as you are reporting. He hadnt used the kit for 3 years and at first i thought it was a faulty unit, but after googling and finding this forum, i think i have found the answer. Just about to ring my local Alpine Dealer to see if they have the required update disc in stock.
Has anyone had the disc loaded yet? Is it just a one off thing, just put the disc in, load it, take it out and then put your map disc back in?

How do you reset the unit?

I would very much like to know.

As per earlier answer

"I have been on to Alpine Tech support today and they are aware of the fault. It has nothing to do with the leap year. It is all because the System sees a new satellite which came online on the 29th feb and does not expect to see it. The Sat Nav box does not know what to do with the information from the new satellite."

Alpine have a repair disk to fix this problem. (Free)
Call them on 0845 3131660

Hello ALUN,

Can you give more information about this update?

Is it a CD-rom or DVD rom? Can you make an image of this cd or dvd?

In Portugal they don´t send any update, I rang and they say that I have to send the NVE-N077PS and they will update it. and also that I i´ll have to pay for this upgrade.

Regards

"Cheers Nick.I rang alpine and they sent me a disc to upate the system."

Nick, April 2008
Hi.

Has anyone got a solution to the system needing resetting everytime you switch the car off for a few hours?

Cheers

ALUN, April 2008
Yeap - got the same problem - I think you can assume there are hundreds out there with the same issue.

Hello Again,

I have been on to Alpine Tech support today and they are aware of the fault. It has nothing to do with the leap year. It is all because the System sees a new satellite which came online on the 29th feb and does not expect to see it. The Sat Nav box does not know what to do with the information from the new satellite.

In approx 2 to 3 weeks Alpine will have a fix for the problem and will be sending it out to dealers.

Call their Tech Support and they will add you to the list they are compiling. 08703333826

Cheers Mark

Yep...same problem here.

Resets OK and if the car is turned off for a few hours it fails again and needs resetting.

Must be a fix for this somewhere....just got to find it.

hi again,

You are right Nick, my sat nav also needs resetting everytime I start. Have you found a solution for this..I spoke to my local guys here...no one seems to have a clue :(

HIya,
I had exactly the same issue with the same unit. Occured on 29th Feb 08. After lots of searching and nearly buying a new unit - I found the answer. And Nick is exactly right.

The answer is:
- Unplug all cables. Leave it a some time. I left it about half hour.
- Plug back in the screen and power. (Do NOT plug the GPS lead in yet)
- It will reboot - poss to software version 2.10 and centre on Greenwich, London.
- Leave the power on and plug in the GPS.
- Leave the power on and wait for 5-10mins
- The GPS will find your location - and off you go - factory ready!

Perfect. Wierd thing to happen. Another forum said that a shop mentioned a satellite failed due to the leap year and that's what caused it. Not sure myself, sounds like dodgy coding in the Application to me. Anyhow, its sorted.

Thank guys - good luck

To reset it you need to unplug both the cables entering it (the large one is the power the small one the GPS antena.) Then wait 10 mins and plug the power back in & leave on untill a map comes up it should be of Grenwitch (london) when this comes up you plug in the small lead (GPS) and your possition should come up.

However mine resets ok then the next time I stop it fails again let me know if you have the same problem, I have seen several on Ebay but if they are all the same its pointless.

Nick, March 2008
