epson 9600 pro printer?

I was given a epson 9600 pro that has not been used since 2004. I have been trying to revive it. The original ink is still in it. Of course the ink shows expired as of 2005. I purchased the print head cleaning kit. I worked on it for three days. Light magenta will not clear, it has cleared only a minimum. The top line on the nosile printout only prints partially on three colors. Made good progress but haven't got it printing good yet. My question is, do you think if I purchase a new ink cartrage set and install all new ink that would cure the problem?

You can try a power cleaning on this, but if it does not come back you will need to replace the printhead.
The power cleaning uses about 1/3 of your ink.

This is not something you should attempt unless you are very mechanically inclined and can find the service manual to guide you.

I bought one of these last year that had been sitting for two years on first or second set of inks. The Dampers that go into he print head where the problem. At least the magenta was fully clogged. I bought bulk system that came with cleaning product and ran the different settings to flush out the lines, still did not clear our the damper, I had to pull it off and use a sering on both sides sucking and pulling until it broke free. (if i had a new damper on hand that day I would have just used it)

Replacing the inks will not fix the problem. Replacing the maintenance station may help, then do a few strong cleans. If that don't work replace the print head, put then use a full set of new inks.
