how to access filter in hotpoint wd420 and restore heat to dryer?

Hi
I have a recurrring prob. The filter gets blocked, doesn't drain properly, then trips out thermostat for dryer. How do I access filter to clean it, and where is the trip switcch for thermo for dryer? I cannot afford to call hotpoint again. Plus it must be a design fault, and they won't admit it!

I wonder if anyone could help ?
I have a Hotpoint WD420 washer/dryer which won't do the final spin. It washes ok but at the final spin it seems to be going into the spin but then stops and just churns for a while and then repeats. It's as if rinse-hold had been selected but it hasn't.
I've checked the filter in the black bellows-like hose and found a penny and a woodscrew but even after putting things back together, the washer still won't do a fast spin. All lights look normal. The waste pipe isn't blocked.
When the programme is cancelled, the washer drains ok but the clothes are still quite wet of course.
Many thanks for any advice you can offer.

i had problem with drainage , i cleaned filter out and it still did not work . so i took the pump apart which you need a star key to do , and i found an elastic band wrapped around the inside of the pump , stopping the pump from working ,all works fine now.

the filter is located at the back of the appliance. take the small cover plate off and you see the black hose that goes to the pump and the tub. the filter is located in there. be careful as water will still be in there even when the machine looks empty. the drier thermostat is probably faulty and power isnt going to the element the thermostat is quite cheap but a bit more difficult to fit. when that thermostat has been replaced it should work fine but just make sure that you dont overload it when using the drier as it will contiunually trip the stat. you have to take the lid off and its situated directly underneath the lid at the front.

Some hotpoint, indesit and ariston filters are located in the big black sump hose (the one that leaves the bottom of the outer drum and connects to the pump). Remove the back cover, locate hose, remove the tensioner clip by squeezing the tabs together, remove the hose, take out filter and clean.
