transit2.5 diesel 2000 wont start?

my transit had been gradually getting smokier (white ) untill ,after not using it for a couple of weeks ,i went back out in it and suddenly i was blazing a trail of white smoke that literaly filled the road and all behind, it was not black or blue smoke but great plummes of fluffy white, so i decided a full service was required and changed timing belt, oil filter, oil, air filter, coolant and fuel filter, all done by the book, getting top dead centre ,and putting in the timing pegs 13mm,9mm and 8mm, before taking of old belt, double checked all before putting back together,,, now it wont start,,,arrrrrgh help

hi hamish , listen buddy it was just before ford changed to the chain, so why would i describe all of what i had done mate if it didn't have a belt,
LEE, hi mate i have checked and re-checked the fuel timing by the book, but still no joy, even had the fuel pump off and tested came back OK, i have tried bleeding at the injectors but still have no joy. only got the van in sept.. so the service history's a mystery which is why i set about giving the old bus a full service TIMING BELT and all. any other suggestions would be appriciated mate.
STEVE,, cheers bud i kinda had the same thought myself, with that but im glad to say it wasn't coolant as it isn't loosing any ( few!!! no head gaskt to replace ) any other ideas would be very welcome , cheers!

take fuel filter off and fill it with clean diesel. these have a timing chain on them so dunno how you changed the timing belt

hamish, April 2008
have you bled the fuel system chek your book, out of intrest white smoke is unburnt diesel posibl cause loss of compression/injection timing wrong / valve timing wrong/ faulty injectors. lack of servicing will eventually knaker compresions -worn engin and injectors.

Did it lose a lot of coolant? Could the white smoke be coolant escaping into the exhaust via the head gasket? Have the coolant pressure tested.
