Erratic Boiler cut out (and in laws)?

So it's snowing and we have my in laws staying for Easter weekend - what's the last thing we need? A fault in our Vokera combi boiler.

The boiler randomly cuts out but then restarts erratically once or twice a day. The red light on the wall switch is still on, but the whole unit goes dead - not even a red light on the front - and the clock stops working.

We're covered by Heatgguard but can't get hold of anyone for love nor money this weekend.

We've tried turning on/off and the pressure is spot on (1.5 bar) but no joy. When it does (spontaeously) turn on all is fine hot water and heating wise - we've just no idea when it'll turn on/off.

Many thanks for any help/pointers you can provide - we're chilly!

Thanks both for your suggestions - we eventually got an engineer (after excellent service from the Royal Bank of Scotland emergency insurance support) and a faulty transistor on the PCB board was found to be the problem. An engineer promptly replaced it and we're now able to take off the many layers of coats and long johns with a fully functioning boiler.

Thank you again all for your input - we did try what you suggested and you gave us hope on a snowing easter weekend.

i had similar problem which seemed to turn out to be the quick blow fuse holder. it would randomly go off/on sometimes stay off until you turned the the power to 0 for minute then back on to w+h. it has not happen since (touch wood) and that was before xmas. fuse holder was springy to push in rather than positive wedge fit.

HI

I am in the British Gas plan and have had a similar problem in that My Vokera Eclipse sometimes switches itself off, no heating or hot water. I have switched it off for a while, then back on again. It re-sets itself. The British gas Engineers, when they finally turn up, have not been able to find the problem (twice). Mine does lose a little water now and again, a friend seems to think that this may be the problem, However I am at a loss.
