Kelvinator KD14SS dishwasher fault code?

My Kelvinator KD14SS dishwasher shows an E4 fault code (overfilled) when trying to operate it. How do I fix this?

I'd like to add to this thread as follows: I tilted the dishwasher to drain the water onto a towel and it worked - for a while. Then it started with the blinking lights again halfway through the wash cycle and it started to leak badly. I discovered that there is a pipe which feeds to the top of the machine to spray the dishes from above, which had disconnected by itself and was spraying water down the back of the machine causing the cutout switch to activate. To fix this is simple, remove the top cover of the machine and replace the pipe with a stronger clip than the OEM one.

A thousand thanks, I tilted it and watched the water draining onto a towel and now it's working 100%.

Kelvinator KD12WW1 Initially the machine was flashing the Intensive key and the warning buzzer was sounding and would not start or fill. Read the manual and it reads, 'overfilled." Tilted the machine backwards for about 2 or 3 minutes and about 2 litres of water came out the back. Stood it back up and it was working perfectly again! Yay! Thanks to all! Bill - Cape Town

Hi all, Thank you so much for putting this question out here. I have had the same error 4 and not been able to clear it. I followed the tilt 45 deg back and a lot of water came out the bottom. when I plugged it back in now it is working beautifully. Thank you for all your answers and the advise about the towels. Have an awesome day.

An S with a jug above the star means you need to add salt if you remove the bottom tray you will find to the left hand side a kind of knob you can open using your hands, open this and fill dish washer salt, Not table salt. Normally a bag would do. Close it and the sign will be gone on the next wash. Please note adjust the dispenser to your hardness of your water..

"malfunction of temperature sensor or of heating element".

Opened mine up today, it's not a design flaw. Just tilt it and you will be fine. If it's happening often you are packing your dishwasher incorrectly and with too many items, I.e. catching too much water which then drips down and a resultant excess water volume. Also, your machine might not be draining properly, I.e. dirty filter at the bottom.

Can anyone tell me what is the star sign at bottom left corner of display window means?

David, December 2011
Hi we are having the same error, we have tried tipping it but nothing comes out and still get the error. Any other advice?

Our machine is just over 2 years old (1 month out of warrantee) and we've been needing to drain it this way every 6 weeks or so for about 6 months now (as instructed by Kelvinator). It finally gave up and we could not get rid of the error code about a week ago. Kelvinator sent out a tech today (R 350) who replaced a pipe with a 2nd hand pipe (no charge) and let us know that this happens because of a factory fault. While the tech had the machine opened up we noticed that all the water does not drain effectively and pools in a recess at the bottom of the machine. This recess is evidently not rust proof. The tech let us know that this is a design flaw with the machine - the service manager denies this. We don't mind draining it every once in a while but are very concerned about the rusting water recess. We've escalated to the national service manager and will update you on their response.

Thanks everyone. Just fixed my E4 problem using your advice. Unfortunately did not read the tip about outting down towels so had to do a bit of mopping up.

Dazzle, March 2009
first i tried topping up salt, 1 packet then another cause it still beeped with E4 error code. next i tilted dishwasher backwards for about 5 minutes and it is working as normal now.... thanks for the advice ... it was so hard getting this information as i've lost the manual and googled but this site was pretty good in helping me out!! Thanks a million dude.

I had the same problrm. THIS IS BRILLIANT it is working .

Eswiz, December 2008
You are a LEGEND! You saved me 100's of rands!

A tip for others who have this problem: put towels under the dishwasher as it leaks quite a bit of water. Keep it tilted for about 2 minutes and then it works.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
