how can you help me defy automaid washing machine wont spin but it washes

My Defy washing machine came smoke at the back and stopped functioning, could it be the mote or wires burnt? It was a little slow on spinning and draining waster lately or spin but clothes will be still dripping water still

Hi I have just replaced my OLD Defy automaid after at least 16 years of loyal service..One of the reasons I replaced it was this same problem..I used to get around the problem by switching it off for 10 mins to cool down ,and then switch back on to continue spin...I did not investigate the thermister (that is in the spin circuit, because the spin uses a different winding on the motor) I finally got rid because there was a massive water leak which ,after dismantling turned out to be a massive rust hole on outer drum by the heater element..

Replaced the timer with new one, but spinning cycle still not working. Model Daw265

Spot on! If you can start the motor turning manually, it is the capacitor (big cylindrical thing near the top of the defy) - rated at 16 micro farad or uF. Cost me R51.
Many thanks!!

Defy washing machine washes but does not spin....problem solved by removing the pump and cleaning it out (Mine has 3 coins stuck in it). Once removed it washes and spins.....whooohooo, saved myself R800....

Hi, I have two Defy automaid machines withthe same "wont spin " problem. Had the motors checked and replaced the caps but no go. I found that if you manually help the motoer to turn it will spin. This means the Timer switch is not providing connection from cap to motor. If i get a wiring diagram I can work out a fix using relays etc but can't find the diagram.. anyone help?

The Timer switch and capacitor are the two most common parts in the Defy Automaid. Mine gave up after about 13 years, and you can have these two components replaced for about R700, other than that it's a great maching.

I have had the same problem with our Defy Automaid and the crowd that so-called fixed it, said they replaced the capacitor (was not a new capacitor, if they did replace it). That cost nearly R 800 with a 2 month guarantee. However, after 3 months, same problem. I fiddled around with the machine and got it to work. The selector knob plays up, and by gently turning it, you can get the spin cycle to work again.
