Why is bobbin thread not catching?

Singer 2517

When the bobbin is placed into the machine, the thread does not catch into the two notches of the bobbin case...what may be wrong and how do I fix it?

My bobbin thread wasn't catching because the tension was too tight, so the needle couldn't catch the thread. This was pretty unclear in the instructions, but I was finally able to find an illustration on how to loosen it. I had to take a tiny screwdriver and loosen the screw for the bobbin, and once I had loosened it and placed it back in, I was able to catch the thread with the needle.

Hello Donna,
Make sure you have the bobbin in the correct way round so it turns anti clockwise
