Reignite pilot light on Worcester 240 combination boiler?

How do I reignite my pilot light on my Worcester 240? I have a gray knob with two options:

1)I can press it all the way in
2)I can turn it one quarter turn and press it half way in

I then try to fire the pilot fvrom the red button to the piezo-electric device.

Nothing works. Friends tell me that I am meant to take option 1 which heats up a bimetallic strip, making it bend and allowing gas to flow. Then the piezo can spark the gas. Anybody khnow the accurate and exact sequence?

Am I meant to power the boiler off, back on ? Twist knobs to maximum, minimum, pat my head and rub my tummy?

The instruction manual is rubbish.

My button does not need pushed down and my pressure is fine. Making all the right noises but still no ignition flame.

Can anyone say where the grey button is located? Have read through the Worcester manuals and can't see the grey button anywhere.

Thanks,

your right you can't turn knob anti clockwise, it only turns slightly clockwise then springs back. press in and turn or just turn, this should reset.
then make sure programmer is not set to demand heating, and follow other instructions.
press in and ignite and hold for 20secs then slowly release.
did it today and thought, right last time, (that was after 25 attempts) and it stayed lit.
if not could be you need a thermocouple or reset switch. do a search for your specific model.

Please help a damsel in distress & freezing...... How do I reignite the pilot light when the red button won't work? Also where's the grey button???!!! Thanks

Hi there,

There is a red button inside the boiler as you open the white cover press it and get all the air out of your heaters and then turn on the water and then it will work

Thanks John. Those are very like the instructions in the manual. The one thing that doesn't give me faith in the manual is "turn the knob anti-clockwise, wait three minutes and start again". The reason being is that I can't seem to turn the gray knob anti-clockwise.

If I could, why would I turn the gray knob anti-clockwise? What would this initiate or stop?

I can light the pilot with a splint so I suspect the piezo-electric. Also, once lit, the pilot burns while demand is high then when demand is low the pilot goes out.

Try option 1.....press it and hold, hit the igniter, watch for flame, continue holding the gas button in for 20 sec, release slowly and see if the flame stays on. If the flame doesn't establish, turn knob anti clockwise, wait 3 mins and try again.
Hope this helps!
