I have a WMA31 Hotpoint and the door lock will not engage.
When I select a programme and press start the door light flashes. In the manual it tells me to open the door and close it again which i have done many time with no luck. Can anyone help tell me what the problem is and how to fix it.

Ours has started to do exactly the same thing but if you give the door a firm push without opening it first it goes out and the program starts. I suspect that it is just wear and tear on the door lock mechanism.

tHE DOOR LIGHT FLASHING COULD ALSO BE CAUSED BY A BLOCKED FILTER, A FAULTY CONTROL MODULE, A PRESSURE SWITCH FAULT, A PUMP PROBLEM OR WATER VALVE.THE DOOR LIGHT FLASHING IS AN INDICATOR THAT YOU HAVE A FAULT. ONE LAST THING CHECK THE DOOR RELEASE LEVER SOMETIMES THEY LOSE THERE TENSION AND DONT APPLY ENOUGH FORCE ON THE INTERLOCK

Sounds like the switch may have failed. I would see about replacing the switch as it can only cost about £10 I would imagine. Alternatively, you could arrange for an engineer to come out and repair it for you.
