can i fix a hole in the back of my electro-acoustic guitar?

i have a yamaha electro-acoustic guitar, given to me by a friend, but the back has a nasty crack in it, is it possible to fill the hole or will i be able to replace the whole back section wihtout affecting the sound too much, and what type of wood should i use?

the best thing you can do is to put epoxy on it, or something that might seal the crack e.g., vulca seal, epoxy, etc.. it will not affect the sound and if it did, send it to the professional, but consider my advice. good luck to you and good look to me. muah!
