The NTC (Negative Temperature Co-efficient) thermistor is the component which measures the temperature of the water (usually by being screwed or pressed onto either the door assembly or the bottom of the stainless steel tub) during the water heating part of the wash. It has a specific electrical resistance at room temperature which in an NTC (as opposed to a PTC), will drop as the temperature rises. Now since the component has probably gone Open Circuit (or a broken wire) the control board senses that the NTC is not connected (because of the OC or broken wire) and displays the fault code within minutes of the program starting. Therefore interupting the program. I would suggest calling a competent repair engineer, unless you really know what you're doing!
