How can I fix my Philips Metal Jug Kettle HD4660?

the kettle is no longer working - the red light still shows on the kettle when the power is on but there is no heat.
the kettle is a Philips Metal Jug

My HD4660 broke this week too.
I have taken it apart, and can see where the element has "blown".
I found one site (espares) selling a new element - for £50 !
Considering the kettle only cost £30 5 years ago, I will not be purchasing!
A new kettle (though not as nice) is only £20 now.
