Kenmore SS fridge 106.59502990, 5 yrs old, not cooling while freezer is normal. Tech checked air flow and notice air damper is closed and opened it, but it closed again. He wanted to replace both the damper and the thermostat without doing any diagnostics to see which part is bad. I stuck a spoon to keep damper open but fridge still warm. Does any one knows which part is bad. Thank you

Why contact an engineer and ignore his/her advice? Get it checked by a competent engineer or two. If they diagnose the same fault and repair, then your safe. You should never attempt a temporary repair, as explained in you request. Jamming anything open is risky. Or buy a new one.
