how to fix my renault clio?

sometimes the car turns over and fails to start, drives well but sometimes just cuts out but if left for 5 mins seems to somehow reset itself and starts. had it at garage but they cant find anything wrong. the car is an automatic and is V reg

this is a shot in the dark with out seeing it but i would try a crankshaft sensor first its situated on top of the gearbox
