Well, I'm going to answer my own question. In short, motor coupling. I worked to get a good view of the underneath and did a quick burst of a test and saw the coupling was what's making the noise. Removed the agitator, unbolted the motor/transmission unit, slid it out the bottom, removed the pump, motor and took off the broken coupling. Now I'll just pick up the new one, replace and have saved probably hundreds of dollars (my wife wanted a new washer!).
