My Potterton EP3001 programmer has 'reprogrammed' itself?

After a holiday with the power off my EP3001 programmer battery ran out (its old) and when switching on mains power, the way it works has changed. Heating and hot water works on the hot water side of the programmer (as if there was no separate side for heating) and the heating side of the programmer does not respond when the control buttons are pushed. It means I can no longer contol HW and CH separately. Also, the display now shows 3 'on/off' periods daily when there was only 2 before. How can this be fixed?

Help please! I have a similar problem to above with a difference. Having also come back from holiday the 'hot water' side of my programmer now activates the central heating as well! Whilst away the ch was off and the hot water was timed to heat twice a day (as it still is). The timings set all appear to be the same on the programmer as when we left, despite evidence of a power cut on the cooker timer. We had no hot water at all before it started heating this morning and this has never happened before even with heavy usage so I'm wondering if the water is being heated for the correct amount of time now. I'm stumped, any ideas anyone please? Thanks in advance

There is a slot underneath, probably right hand side, into which you slide up a screwdriver to unhook a catch & then can pivot up the controller {pull bottom out & up while keeping top in place} & then free it from its backing plate - be sure to turn off mains electricity first! There is a battery on the back which, when new, has a 7 day memory - so remove & replace. When controller is replaced in the cradle {hook in at top, then pivot down} all should be well. Note battery should be replaced every 5 years.
