Our boiler keeps tripping out so that we have to press the reset button underneath. Our system was recently flushed, at huge cost, but this has made little difference. Our plumbers now say that it might be the heat exchanger in which case we will need a new boiler. Is this right or am I getting ripped off?
It actually turned out to be the thermostat on the boiler itself. Cheap & easy to fix.

They have changed the thermostat on the boiler itself which seems to have fixed the problem

no way it's the heat exchanger never had one fail yet for that.
they are a strong old boiler hang onto it.
as said check you pump and also that the boiler stat is not to high as this can activate the overheat.

sounds like overheat poor circulation problem. id try pump head first, possible weak pump.
