How can I mend my indesit di620 dishishwasher door catch?

Indesit di620 dishwasher - the door is not "clicking" shut when pushed to, and I have found a c2cm spring with a hook at one end and what appears to have had a hook at the other end which has snapped off. Do you know what the piece is, and how would I reattach a new one? Many thanks in anticipation!

I did the same as Des described. Worth watching the video first though.

Top tip: look at the Youtube video from Espares: http://www.espares.co.uk/part/dishwashers/door-locks/indesit/di620uk/p/1529/805/0/553665/509247/dishwasher-door-interlock.html

The video shows how to get at the catch and how the catch looks when properly assembled. The small 1cm, 2mm thick bar sitting on the machine side of the catch pops out when the spring breaks. Found mine in the bottom of the door! The catch doesn't come out of a "built in" unit with screws, - it's glued to your kitchen door fronts, but nevertheless, with a bit of fiddling, you can get at the catch mechanism. Be sure hold the door down whilst you unhook all the cables inside- the door springs are likely to break them as it springs back after you've undone your last screw on the door cover!

I have also manage to stretch the spring and after dismantling the door and removing the latch I carefully reattached the spring to both metal bar. It help a lot if you look up the part picture I found it on Ebay! and if you cannot mend the latch it cost 6 or 7 pounds only

Des A's answer was spot on - I found the bar after taking the door apart - but the spring was nowhere to be seen. i put in a new spring, (not as strong as the original) which is working ok so far. Thanks for a top answer !

Hi, I've just repaired my indesit di620 with the exact problem. You need to undo the screws holding the upper plastic casing and detach it from the main body. Make sure that the electricity is switched off at the mains. There are two screws holding the catch in place under a piece of sticky foil tape. unscrew these and disconnect the two female spade connectors attached to a switch in the catch( remember where they go when replacing them). Pull out the catch. It's quite possible that a small bar is missing from the catch so have a look around under the dishwasher or in the inner reinforcement panel attached to the door (you will need to unscrew all the other screws and dismantle the door for this). I reformed a new hook on the spring with a pliers and reattached it to the catch. Then refitted it. My machine is working fine now.
