i forgot my password for my emachine, how can i change it to log on?

i was given an emachine but my cousin forgot the password to log on. It asks for an HDD number

Its easy for someone to forget there password if there not using there computer constantly not all computer are stolen I forgot my password and I haven't used my computer in a year. I don't assume the worst.

why is it that people often assume when others forget their password for their computers that it's automatically "stolen"??? we have 2 laptops, and 4 desktop pc's... i have different passwords for my kids computers, so there are times when i forget the passwords...

I have no intention of helping out people unlock stolen PCs. (Not this one,others who read the post.) Take it to a computer shop with ID and proof of ownership.
