how to connect wires at back of USB port to connector pins on motherboad?

How to connect the wires coming out of the back of USB front panel to the five pins on the mother board ? All the 4 wires are separate. I do not know which one to put on which pin. Of course pins are marked 1 to 5. I once tried at random and when I put the pendrive in USB slot it instead do working heated up and got burned out. Motherboard is Intel D865GSA. OS loaded is WindowXP without any SPs. Front USB panel is generic without any company's name on it. Please guide me how to solve this problem. Do mentioned colour of wire and which one to go which pin number.

USB connectors are 4 cables, red, white, green, black.
These translate to red = vcc, white = usb -, green = usb +, black = ground.
the usb headers on the mobo are two rows of pins one row is five, the other beside it is four. Te configuration goes from one side to the other starting at 1 which is the first pin on the one with four in the row. It goes 1 left 2 right,3 left four right and so on to 10. 9 is empty as it serves to stop you plugging a preformed plug in incorrectly.
so the running order from one end to the other on the row with five is as follows: 2,4,6,8,10 and the row with 4 is 1,3,5,7,9.
The correct order to connect is 1 = red,3=white,5=green,7
black=ground 9 = no pin and on the other side of 5 pins the running order is 2=red,4=white,6=green,8=black,10 =no connection. Any doubts? email me at compdoctor2005@btinternet.com
