Mick's response works a treat. 2 days without hot water from my mixer kitchen tap. 10 seconds of hand over the spout with both taps on at the same time - sorted. Don't use a new tea towel between your hand and the spout though, all the water runs straight off it onto the floor.... wet it first.

Spot on Mick!! We had the same problem with a mixer tap in the kitchen. What surprised me was that I was able to hold the pressure back by pressing with my hand without water squirting every where. Many thanks!!!

Fantastic. No water from any hot taps - 20 seconds with my hand over the mixer tap.... Problem solved.
Thanks!

Mick i've got a similar problem. No hot water after i drained the syetm cos of a leak. Flush out the system using cold to hot method. This did not work as the water started to come out of the overflow in the roof. Anyone got any other suggestions?

I can't believe it worked. After 35 years of owning a house, we have never had a situation of no water coming from hot water tap. There has been a lot of construction in our area lately and we've had low water pressure through out the house , but this was understandable. I first tried the mixer trick in the upstairs bathroom as it is the only mixer faucet we have. It didn't work. So I went to the laundry tub downstairs, held my hand over the spout and turned both taps on low for about 30 seconds. I started hearing the gurgling sound and YESSSS the hot water started coming out. I was amazed this worked.

thank you so much for this information - I had just finished changing the immersion element in my hot water tank, only to find i had no water coming out of the hot tap. Hand over mixer tap in bathroom for about 30 seconds, lots of gurgling and voila!!Mick, whoever you are you're a genius!!

Mick, what a legend! I've been storming around in a rage for a few hours after fitting new bathroom taps only to find no water from the hot tap anywhere in the house. 30 seconds with my hand over the kitchen mixer tap did the job for the whole system. Now all I've got to be annoyed about is the vast amount of plastering, tiling, re-flooring and painting that still needs to be done - you've got to love DIY!!
Cheers,
Tim

sounds like air lock" how many taps have you on the sink , just one mixer tipe , or two taps , hot and cold? if its two taps, try run a small lenth of of garden hose , about 12ins long , from the cold tap , to the hot tap, , put one end of the hose into or over the the end of the cold tap , and the other end into or over the hot tap ,turn on the cold tap , make sure that you have hot tap open (ON) let the water from the cold run into the hot tap , to fill up the empty gap that the air lock has made in the hot water pipe, when the running water hits the airlock it will free it , and you should have it working again it might take 5min of running water to clear it , , if its a mixer put the plam of your hand up very tight to tap to cover it , and do the same as above" open the two taps, to backwash it ps you might need a teatowel for this one to keep the spray down , good luck
