I have a Sony Vaio laptop and want to project my presentation onto a large overhead screen. On other laptops this happens when you press F5 or F9 but this doesn't work - any ideas or information would be appreciated!

The key sequence to switch monitors varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. e.g. In the case of an IBM ThinkPad it is Fn-F7 and is marked on the F7 key. Bring up the help screen for your laptop and you will find the key sequence for it.

Easiest way is to plug the VGA cable or whatever TV out procedure it is that you are using and then turn the laptop on after you have done this. Almost each time I have tried with the many laptops I deal with daily, it will switch to external output if you do this.
