Cold water tank in the loft overflows during the night?

My cold water tank in loft overflows during the night despite having had a new ball valve fitted. During the day it's ok. What could the problem be?

the tank fills at night when no one is using water ie all in bed
ball valve is still not cutting off supply try bending it down a bit
