Hot to fix WC cistern?

The plunger mechanism has packed up on a close coupled WC and will not flush.how do I replace this?Can I do it without removing cistern ?

hi depending on the age of the toilet you may not have to remove the cistern some syphons twist off ,if you do have to remove cistern spray some wd40 on the wing nuts under neath ,turn off water,flush toilet undo screws in cistern undo wing nuts undo connection to float operated valve ,gently try to lift off cistern it may be siliconed.fit new syphon and buy a new close coupled making up kit only about 5 pounds which is new bolts butterfly washers doughnut washer and reverse procedure
