Ford Sony 6CD player,,,wont recognise any CDs?

I have a Sony 6cd player in my Mondeo 2004 Ghia. The CD player has stopped working. It accepts a CD, but then will not play or recognise it and gives the message "check CD". Any Ideas what the problem could be (its not the CDs Ive tried loads!) or what the fix would be!

Many thanks Richie

Hi,

I have had the same problem with my unit. I tried all sorts of things and in the end fixed it by ejecting all of the CD's and then filling the unit with 6 CD's. It has worked fine since then. According to a friend the internal heads can become missaligned and by filling the unit it brings everything back together.

WARNING: make sure that you can eject discs before you try this as it can be very costly to get your discs back if they get 'locked' inside the machine. My advice would be to use 6 non-original discs i.e. ones that you could effectively afford to loose.

I had the same problem, in the end i ejected all the CDs, left the car overnight to allow the unit to cool then reloaded then the next day, worked fine

I don't have the answer, but I have recognized the message "check CD" myself. It happens most often after temperature shifts. After a while the CD's starts spinning with a strange noise, but at last they work fine. It seems to help sometimes to just eject and reload the CD. But as I said earlier, it seems to have something to do with temperature shifts.
