Through a series of circumstances, my daughter's Wharfedale portable DVD -266 was connected to mains power, through a converter, but on the wrong polarity. i.e. -ve to +ve rather than +ve to +ve. Whereupon, there was a bang and a lot of smoke and it stopped working (understandably).

Does anyone know if this is fixable ? Could it be that just the battery has been damaged and a new battery would do it ? It has an internal battery and also a big flat battery which attaches to the base and which was in place at the time of the disaster.

Help would be greatly appreciated, my daughter saved for months for this machine and it was the best thing she ever had....

Doh.... just done something similar - connect to 12V car cigarate lighter & extension lead - smoke started immediately -needless to say no pwer light any more. I think extension lead was wrong polarity. I've take circuit board out and it looks like a diode (rectifier maybe) has fried next to power in plug- internal fuse still intact so maybe all it needs is replacement diode. Haven't located anyone to sort yet though.....going on a long trip in a couple of days so looks like my daughters are going to get bored...if I find a cure will let you know

I have done the same thing, it looks like a new battery pack required as the main fuse is dust.. - if you do source one please post the detilas as i have been looking with out success..
