washer sounds like it is in the spin cycle but the basket is not turning. water will drain but clothes are still soaked with water

I'm not an expert on this, but my washing machine went like this last year. It went right through the cycle, filling and emptying, but the drum did not turn. I fitted new motor brushes which I got on ebay for a few pounds and it has been working perfectly ever since.
