Unable to browse the internet?

Hi, I use windows XP with the BT broadband HUB. I have reccently stopped being able to browse the internet, I use firefox and it errors and says Internet connectioin does not appear to be working. I have done varisous tests to discover if the problem is with the line but when I pinged it I received no errors. When I boot up in Safe mode with networking I am able to browse, so the issue is not with the line or the hardware. I tried a system restore but that failed to resolve the problem. Can you please suggest some other possible causes and fixes for this problem

Thanks for your help, turns out it was Norton firewall playing silly beggars!! All fixed and tickety-boo!

You haven't provided sufficient detail on broadband setup but here's a few things you can try:
1. Try running internet exporer. If it connects, then you need to check the settings for Firefox (via Tools/Options/Advanced/Network/Settings. -check that "Direct connection to the intenet" is selected.
2. If internet explorer also can't connect the problem lies with your network connection. Go via Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections to see what is defined there. If you have both a Broadband connection and an Internet Gateway defined, disconnect the Broadband connection

(I had similar problems recently and found that my Internet connection came good, after I 'disconnected' the Broadband connection -didn't have to delete it completely)

Another thing: Check that your PC gets an IP address from the router by opening a DOC/Command window and running the command: ipconfig
Check to see that your 'IP address' is something like 192.168.1.2 and the 'Default Gateway' is something like 192.168.1.1
(the first two groups should be 192.168 but the rest will depend on your router -the 3rd group should be identical but the 4th group should not be the same)
