agitator will not turn on Kenmore vacuum model 116.31913?

Was vacuuming up some dirt and small dry leaves in the Florida room, using the attachments. It clogged. I unclogged it. When I went to vacuum regularly, I could hardly push it. The agitator would not turn. This happened to me before and I simply pushed the agitator Overload button and it worked fine. This time, I followed all instructions in the manual: Checked for clogs, put in a new bag, On/Off set to On, Handle released, Hose plugged in securely and then, reset the Agitator Overload button. Nothing! When I return the cleaner to upright position, the light flickers on for an instant. The rest of the time it is off. Please help. Is there some sort of trick to pushing that agitator oveload button? It's so tiny I keep thinking I'm not pushing it in far enough or something. Help!

There's a trick, but it is of the trade, so to speak. What has actually happened is the switch in the motor compartment is out of place (or is going bad). It is the switch that keeps your brushroller from running when the handle is up. When it isn't in quite right or is faulty, you get the problems you are having. This really isn't something you should get your hands into. It's best for a reputable repair shop to do the repair.
