the green light comes on when disc is inserted but wont play,the drive is a new one(6 months old)

you might have removed the driver for the cd rom somehow, try "system restore" it might help ... click on START then "all programs" then "accessories" then "system tools", then "system restore" in there click next" pick a date that you had sound , two weeks back ect" lighlight that date, and go next, that should take the pc back to a working date, with a bit of luck ,
