how can you stop people from following you on facebook…..they are not even on my friends list? thank you in advance

It's possible to block some peoples. This prevent them from posting. To my knowledge, there is no way to reliably prevent anybody from following you.
Anybody can get to your public wall. Once there, someone only need to click «Follow».
You can restrict who can view your private wall. Set it to «Only friends».
