the brushes on my hoover windtunnel V vacuum cleaner wont turn. when brushes are turned on with on/off switch on base of cleaner, the brushes begin to turn then sparking occurs inside of base and brushes then quit turning.

A common problem with these was the gearbox and brushrollers. It is usually brushrollers with damaged ends, where they connect to the center of the base. You have to replace all four of them. It is best to test the gearbox/ motor assembly with the brushrollers out of the base, to make sure the brushrollers are the cause of the problem.
