ceiling pull switch for shower?

we have an electric shower with a ceiling pull switch that turns the light on and off, when we pull the cord the light does not come on and the shower does not work, so do we need to replace the switch or is somethink else is wrong

Ive got the same probkem only difference is is that the light stays on even when the pull cord is pulled but if i hold the pulled cord the power comes on and when i let it go it just turns off but the on and off swith on the pull cord is stuck on but if you tap the box the power flickers on and off help

Sounds very much as though you have a blown fuse or Circuit breaker. You need to check. Otherwise it could be your switch.
Also your light should be on a seperate circuit to your shower. your shower is probably protected by a 30 amp fuse/circuit breaker, way to big for your light.
Lighting ccts should be protected by a 5 amp fuse or circuit breaker.

First check the fuse in the fuse box it should have it's own fuse probably 30amp or more,you will have to find it anyway if you need to change the switch.
