I had to use a flat-headed screwdriver to get the lower panel off (after tilting the machine quite far back) as it was very stubborn. Then I had to use pointed pliers and a torch to get the offending item out (a toggle from a hooded sweatshirt).
After that I turned the machine off at the mains and it started the cycle right where it left off from when I turned it back on.

Thanks a lot - got my washing machine in 2003, it stopped working with that "f-05" on the display yesterday (October 2011). It took me 5 min to find your answer on the web, and only a few minutes to fix the problem.

Just take the lower cover off (you may need to tip the washing machine back) there are three clips holding it in place.
Unscrew the round black cover on the lower RHS (have newspaper and saucepan ready; especially if washing machine is full of water) and clean out what is inside. I had a piece of nylon string caught round the pump.
This should sort it, mine is now working fine.

Can't say for sure that it will fix it but here's what i did:
Take lower front panel off - this will reveal a black cover to the machine filter. Unscrew this (have a pan and towels ready). Clean out the hole and replace the black cover.
My machine has worked fine since so hope this helps you.
