Car is 1996 Megane 1.6 hatch. Recently small niggling faults occurred; difficult starting, cutting out at lights etc. Auto electricians advise-sell it. typical Megane problem for cars this age. Can't afford new car but quoted £600 plus for Renault main dealer to fix problem matches value of car, but I need vehicle. Any cheaper solutions you can suggest?

Tremendous advice from the auto electricians.....its very hard to say what the problem actually is but the Renault coil pack(s) are notoriously unreliable....I think that you need plugs and plug leads before going any further, but its worth checking any visible electrical connections (and earths) too. Can't do any harm!
