This Player for some reason now will not play Music videos which have been released on Disc Format DVD9. Eg... Eagles Hell Freezes Over. Buena Vista Social Club. E.L.O ZOOM Tour alive. These are all new disc's . I used to play the Eagles all the time with no problem , I replaced with new copy due to sometimes not loading. now both wont play. Note . The player will read 4 of the 5 bars/segments when loading.??

I HAVE A PANASONIC SA-HT80 5 disc player. I have not used it in years but recently tried it and it blasts out music from cd. This is the best system I have ever heard, is there anyway I can adjust it to new TV as you know its old, or can you recommend one as good as this. tia joan

Hi There,
I have a problem in player. When power is on disc tray automatically come out and when you try to close from button it does not go back. So you have to push manually to insert disc tray back to its original place.
DVD or any CD does not play but other function Radio/Tv/ Aux works fine.
Please help to fix. Thanks in Advance

what is the pot? I cant seem to find it? I have my whole dvd player apart at this point and cant figure out what the adjustment screw looks like. Is it under the lazer? or is it the little round silver thing with the white piece behind it about 1 inch away from the lazer?

Thanks for the instructions on fixing the SA-HT80, Neil.
It fixed up my problem with it, viz, no DVDs would work. Just got the "No play" line every time.
That pot was difficult to find because it was so tiny. Thought it was just a rivet at first.

I just performed the steps listed above by "Neil", and my unit is now working like a charm!!! I am soo excited to finally use this unit for the first time in 4 years. I had all but given up on it, had it not been for the emotional attachment I had for it I would have trashed it years ago! I am EXTREMELY happy right now!

I have just done this Fix and it works a treat but I tweaked it a quarter of a turn. My DVD player plays every thing now with no problems. Also I changed the Region code to 0000 and that work great to I can now play any region disk. Cant recommend these mend it's enough.

I used Neil's mend and my SA-HT80 works fine now. The unit has basically been a boat anchor for 3+ years. I used a pair of tweezers to turn the POT. Thanks Neil!

A major problem began 2 years ago Some New DVDs would not always play. Message on LED display says "NO PLAY". I discovered today that the problem lies with the laser being underpowered for some DVDs.
On the web I found a fix.
Warning! Always have someone competent with electricity to fix the SA-HT80 with the following instructions:

1. Remove all disks from player.
2. When door is open slide front door cover upwards to remove.
3. Leave door open.
4. Important UNPLUG FROM THE MAINS!
5. Remove the 3 screws from under the front panel then remove cover screws.
6. Disconnect player from the mains. Remove cover.
7. Once you have removed the cover you will see on left side is the drive parts.
8. Pull out the two flat cables which go to the Drive from the
vertical circuit Board(Hold the cable with thumb and forefinger close to the
connector and slide the flat cables out of their connector.
9. Remove the screws fixing the drive unit to the base of the cabinet.
10. Now remove drive unit.
11. Placing the drive upright on a flat surface proceed to remove the two screws holding the Plastic bridge
that sits over the disk.
12. Also undo the screw on the small circuit board which holds the disk sensor switch onto the bridge
and unclip that small board. Remove this plastic bridge over the drive.
13. On underside of drive remove the two small screws from the drive circuit board.
You can now gently prize this board loose.(There is some resistance as a plastic clasp is holing onto the
underside.)
14. Turn Drive back to upright position.
15. Remove the screws which hold the drive in(Screws go through rubber mounts to cushion the drive).
16. Once you have loosened the drive look at the underside and you will see one flat cable goes to the Laser.
Where this cable meets the metal part you will see a tiny device connected on the outside edge
of the flat cable.
17. Turn the POT 1/5 off a turn clockwise(looks like a small washer and be gentle with it) I used pointed
nose pliers for this.
18. Now reassemble DVD player.
19. Ensure cover is in place and screwed down before connecting to
a power supply.

This is a guide which you will follow at your own risk.

place when in operation.

15. Remove the screws which hold the drive in(Screws go through rubber mounts to cushion the drive).

Thanks for your imput.I was off to get it serviced and was looking for the reciept when i came across a slip of paper which was to do with Region Mode , Which i thought i had covered in the options in the manual.
1/ To change region via remote control
. Press to turn player on
.If there is a disc in player to open tray
.Press under the flip top on remote (middle button)
. Press to select 1 DICS LANGUAGES. This will be on screen of TV
.Press To select 1 AUDIO
.Move cursor down to OTHER and enter one of the four digit codes listed in table below
. Press
Press on remote to put player in standby mode
.Wait a few Secs and the power up
You will now be able to watch all DVD for around the world.
AUTO REGION 0000
REGION 1 0001
REGION 2 0002
REGION 3 0003
REGION 4 0004
REGION 5 0005
REGION 6 0006

NOTE "AUTO REGION" WILL PLAY ALL CURRENT TITLES FROM ALL REGIONS......................

and i am currently burning the small wee hours listening to all those new DVD purchased that i have so much wanted to hear.

I have a similar problem playing DVDs. I find that audio CDs play fine first time - if I play an audio CD for 30 - 45 minutes or so, then it reads the DVD every time - it seems to try harder, ie it does more "Read" than coming up "No Play" very quickly. Quite inconvenient, but it still works after a fashion. The original DVD laser failed a couple of years ago and this is a replacement - I think this is possibly failing also - but then it just stopped reading dual layer disks completely.

Any suggestions appreciated ... other than a clean/service it might have to be a new lens/reader. How much have people paid for that I wonder?

I can`t help, but I can lend support so you know you aren`t going crazy. Both me and a co-worker have experienced similar problems with the SA-HT80. In our cases, it isn`t any particular format of DVD that won`t play. In my case, it started with the movie "High Fidelity," so I returned that DVD as defective. Little by little, more and more DVDs refused to play, with the unit telling me "NO PLAY" and the TV screen telling me the player would not accept that "type" of disc, even though they were normal, store-bought DVDs. The only solution the two of us have found on our own is opening and closing the DVD drawer and letting it read again. Do it often enough -- sometimes it takes 20 or 30 tries -- and it will eventually read. Now, I don`t know if that will work in your case, because in our cases, the drive doesn`t go through the READ process like yours is. I have also had DVDs that would give me three or four circles in the read process and then stick, and those DVDs never would play, even though they played fine in my other players.
