HELP MY LAP TOP IS DEAD (WELL AS GOOD AS)?

My time lap top as stopped working- It will turn on and the hard drive spins and it checks the floppy but nothing on the screen --I have little knowledge of these things but i dont think its the screen at fault because it doesn,t seem to boot up properly. Its not worth paying to repair it so i am willing to have a go at it myself with my pound shop screwdriver set.
(kill or cure)
Any advice will be appreciated
Thanks Jane

The first thing you need to do is to try to start the laptop in "safe mode". Every computer has an "F"key that boots the bios and then only the equipment needed to run the computer. You sart the computer from dead off, and as it starts, you tap whichever Fkey starts you up in safe mode. Usually, if the computer is salvagable, it will boot up and you will see information. If it won't boot in safe mode you are unlikely to fix it yourself. Hope that helps, Barry.
