My immersion heater is not working when switched on, what are the possible faults and can I repair it myself?

Thermostat needs changing. Depends on how long the existing stat is. 11" 24" 32" live & neutral to stat`s ................
turn electric offffffffffff. Remove stat.. Replace with new.
They cost around FROM £ 15.00 . From B&Q. DO A DRAWING.
Get a pro in for this----The wire`s are mixed up..
