how can I fix my VCR/DVD Magnavox player?

I don't have an instruction book. The whole thing will only play for a few seconds and then ejects the dvd or vcr tape.
On tv screen often as it ejects, there is the letter c or r
appearing beside the word eject.
can u help? it is a magnavox dual deck MWD2206..silver.
