the door lock on my citroen zsara has locked whilst the door is open ?

the door will not close now due to the mechinism being locked how do i unlock the door

if you put a screwdriver or similar into door latch and try to open latch whilst pulling door handle it should release-it sounds like a spring has broken in latch assy.
