How can I fix my Hoover A3332 washing machine?

My Hoover A3332 washing machine does not spin any more. My local spares shop has closed down, and I am trying to remove the control unit to see if I can perhaps clean the contacts. I cannot get to the top two screws holding the control unit in place. Any ideas?

I have found that the pump does not work. There is voltage supplied to the pump, continuity through the pump (15 Ohms) and there is no restriction to the rotation of the pump.
