What's wrong with my gearbox?

Hiya.. I have a 1.2l, 3dr 1998 Vauxhall Corsa.

There's a problem with the gearbox or the selector.. I can sometimes go on 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but have trouble getting it into 1st and 5th!

What's wrong with it? It's just too stiff to move gears?!

first check if the problem is the clutch cable, it may not be adjusted right so not giving clearance to the clutch plate, it also may have streched and need replacing best of luck!!!
