how can i fix my external overflow and stop it dripping?

We have an extrenal overflow pipe that is constantly dripping and I need to know how to stop it. We have a hot water boiler but have not used it for sometime, and we have not used the central heating for the same amount of time. Obviously because we are home owners we need to know if we can fix it ourselves before calling in the professionals.

Trace the overflow pipe back to its source. I could be your cold water system, central heating or toilet. It most likely to be a leaky ballcock valve washer or may just need the valve adjusting. The washers are cheap and easy to replace with the water turned off.

Can you be more specific - is the leak coming from a loft tank overflow, or is it coming directly from the boiler?
