Miele Novotronic WT 946 i Washer-Dryer - Dryer Not Working - Thermostat?

Hello!

We own a 6-year old Miele Novotronic WT946i washer-dryer.

For >1 year, the dryer has not been working. The cycle plays out, the drum rotates, the end-of-cycle beeper bleeps ... but without ANY heat.

I presume this is likely to be the thermostat or some other relatively straightforward 'switch'/'relay'-type fault and wondered where to begin?

Any and all help GREATLY appreciated: whilst we could afford to buy this 6 years ago, we can't afford a new Hotpoint now!!!

Cheers,

Steve.

I have the same washing machine which is about the same age. My tumble dryer stopped working and we spoke to the servicing department in Miele and they said it was either the Thermostat or the condenser dryer. One was cheap and one was expensive. I decided not to proceed so just brought a condenser dryer. (this is great as you get twice as much washing in there and it dries in half the time!)

Anyway we had a leek with the washing machine and had an Miele engineer come a fix it yesterday, he also confirmed that the tumble dryer was broken and it was the condenser fan which would cost about £430 to fix! I have has to pay £238 to get the leek fixed and will not bother with the dryer. I mean why spend over £1000 on a washing machine to then have to pay half the price again 6 years later!

Will be making a complaint to Miele!

PS As to the guarantee, it's a 2-year affair! You can pay to increase it to 6 or 7 years ... but the prices are steep: close to £200 for a washer-drier!

Daz, thanks for that! These checks were on the to-do list; however, I was trying to avoid any unnecessary dismantling of the darned thing without a machine-specific guide!

Before I get my multimeter out, does anybody have any genuine, real-world experience of this:

http://www.2ndwave.co.uk/manual.html

Is it genuinely worthwhile in fault-finding, diagnosis and repair ... or just in confirming that you require an expert!?

I don't suppose any of the members out there have a Service Guide for a Miele Novotronic WT 946 i Washer-Dryer? Their service charges are just SO expensive and the quality of their engineers seems dependent upon region, as far as the UK is concerned! (It's also evident that they'll charge full-whack for parts which we all know we can source elsewhere for 50% or more less!)

I'm competent at small-scale electronics ... but do not have the same confidence with larger-scale mechanical engineering projects such as this.

Cheers,

Steve.

Don`t Miele have a seven year guarantee as this is why they are twicce the price of any other brand.

The only way of proving your problem is to test the continuity of the heater element and check the operation of the thermostat by using a multi-meter on the resistance/ohms scale.
A more expensive method (but cheaper than an engineer's visit) is by substitution .......ie replace the element and the thermostat with new ones.
