the water will not drain away.Seems to be a five pence in the tube to the right of the fluff filter.The pump which seen to be a fan of some sort is working ok but the water just seems to sit in the machine.

And that is your problem. Remove the 5p piece (and anything else ) plus clean your filter and the problem will be solved. The "fan" ( impeller is the correct name) on the pump can often become jammed with bits (eg hairgrips, grit , pebbles, 5p pieces) causing the exit of water problem. This is a very common fault that is easily cured.
