i have a panasonic dvd recorder DMR-ES15EB . WHEN i delete recorded programmes on the disc , the status time stays the same and will only record to that amount of time - bearing in mind that more recordable time is available on the disc. Taking the disc out and reinserting it makes no change to the status time !

Sound like you are using an R (recordable but only only once) disk as opposed to an RW (recordable many times).

Get some RW or RAM disks.
